دل ہی تو ہے نہ سنگ و خشت درد سے بھر نہ آئے کیوں روئیں گے ہم ہزار بار کوئی ہمیں ستائے کیوں
Transliteration
Dil hi to hai na sang-o-khisht dard se bhar na aaye kyun. Royenge hum hazaar baar koi hamein sataaye kyun.

It is the heart, not stone or brick — how can it not fill with pain? We shall weep a thousand times — why should anyone torment us? The temple is not our address, neither the mosque, let there be no caretaker — and we shall sit on its threshold all the same.
